It's a Blizzard out there Charlie Brown!!!!

Here it is...the furry of Ol' Man Winter!!! It hasn't stopped snowing since yesterday and we're getting another blizzard now. I love being in the house, baking, cozy...catching up with friends online or by phone. There's a sense of peace and tranquility. I've got the housemates outside shoveling again! Life is GOOD!!!!

It's days like today, this time of the year that bring me back to fond childhood memories. I'll never forget the countless memories I have of being curled up on the couch next to my grandfather....my cousin Lloyd and Phillip too (I don't clearly remember were Kari and Laura were) and listening to my grandfather read, "Twas the Night Before Christmas"...I can still hear his amazing deep voice that had so much character and love. I also remember Gram plowing in...with all the packages. She and Gramp always had some BIG surprise for my parents....the kind of gift that makes you cry. Every year! Gram was always known for her interesting gifts...always something neat that no one else would ever have. She had the biggest creative mind and loved to buy gifts for people at Christmas...and then pretend like it was no big deal! ;-) I miss them both! Wonderful, amazing childhood memories....good and bad. I remember being sick eating Peach Blossoms....hard pink candy with peanut butter in the middle. Gramp always had them at the house on Christmas Eve and I LOVED them...needless to say, I spent several hours after in the bathroom being sick from all that sugar. To this day, I cannot even smell them...my body goes into complete rejection!

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

First Storm of the Year....

The Beast of Burden is being shoveled out. We got about 10 inches of snow and it's still coming down! It's absolutely beautiful. The only thing missing at this point is a fire place with all the fixings for S'mores!!! ;-) Another storm coming in on Sunday!!! Ol' Man Winter wanted to make sure he was present for the Holidays! YAYYYY!!!

The Beauty of Completing Life...

Last Friday, I received a call from my friend Nicki telling me that Craig died of a heart attack on Thanksgiving night. I couldn't believe it as she said it....years of being on his team flashed in front of my eyes. On our call, we both remarked at how uncanny it was that 10 years ago, he had his first heart attack on Thanksgiving Day. At that time, I was working at his dental practice and managing his apartment property. I remember at Christmas, I bought him a Christopher Radko blown ornament...it was a heart. I remember him being moved to tears as he looked at it and thanked me.

Today, I remembered how I first knew of him. I was dating Casey Brown at the time. Casey broked a tooth playing basketball and called me and said he was going to see his dentist in Thomaston, ME. Casey lived in Portland and it was a Saturday morning!!! I said, "Are you nuts to drive that far for a broken tooth"? He said, "He's waiting for me to show up". Little did I know back then, that I would be working for him a year and a half later. :-) I remember walking into his dental practice. I knew NOTHING about dentistry, except I had great teeth, always went to the dentist (THANKS MOM & DAD), never had any fillings and have a nice smile! He asked me why I wanted to work for him. I told him the story about Casey and that I wanted to work for someone who cared about people. Needless to say, I got the job, and worked for him for five years....even rented one of his apartments! Now, Craig and I didn't always see eye to eye. :-) Craig and I knocked heads but he literally taught me the business that makes me successful today in my own profession as a consultant.

I'll never forget the time he took us to Boston for the Yankee Dental Conference. He was sooooo excited to take us to this "special" restaurant for dinner. We WALKED for what seemed 2 miles in hour heals (all of us girls)...Pam had blisters on her heals...he wouldn't get a cab. None of us could believe it! We were all complaining and making him so wrong about it and he just laughed. He was also known to give us L.L. Bean gift certificates each year for Christmas. It was a substantial amount. Every year, I would always invest in a new L.L. Bean jacket. I LOVED that gift. I looked forward to it every year, would come in and model my purchase.

Today, I was with the original team of woman who ran his practice. I looked at all of them and said, "Craig was really surrounded by amazing, powerful women". We all looked at each other, laughed and agreed.

Ohhhhh, how years slip by. I'm sure I'll continue to have many memories of him float through my mind but what was so beautiful about today....as I was traveling up from MA to his funeral, I thought to myself, "I never really got to see him to say goodbye. I haven't seen him since I left his practice in 2003". I realized I was having these thoughts and then wondered why it took a week for his funeral, why couldn't it have been earlier in the week when I was already in Maine...it dawned on me that he gave me a gift....today, not only was I going to say goodbye to a friend, but I was also going to Noah & Isabelle's 8th Birthday party. Both Leslie (twins mom) and I worked with him and is acutally how we met and became friends. He new how in love I was with the kids and how long Leslie tried (years) to have them. The beauty of completing life.

Thank you Craig! Your generosity and love is still present. You were an amazing dentist, husband, father and friend to many people. You will be greatly missed in the community. Thank you for who you were for me in my life. I love you and will miss you!

What's Turkey without an After Party??

I was laughing so hard in this picture because my sister, Laura, said, "Ok, sayyyyy...Happy Thanksgiving"....instead of "Cheese". It may not be funny to anyone else but my thought was, "How can you spit all that out without being caught in the picture talking". ANYWAY...this year we were invited to Bo's for Thanksgiving. With Gram being gone, our family tried on a new tradition and good times were had by all!!!

My mother fell on black ice on Tuesday and broke her arm...boooo. :-( I came home on Wednesday and baked pies and peeled little onions all night long and into Thursday morning. I couldn't believe how exceptional the pies came out, given I do not LOVE making pies. I made Apple, Pecan and Chocolate Cream Pie...and NOT out of the box!!! I was up until 11:45p.m. pealing 3 big bags of onions to make boiled onions (a tradition of Gram's). We packed it all in a car and drove to Bo's. The food was AMAZING and everyone sat down and enjoyed each other's families!

Gabby decided she was NOT going to watch the football game but play football! She takes right after me as a child. I was such a Tom-boy. I'll never forget the year I wanted the Midnight Max Rider...which was a remote control car that when on, the headlights turned on!! YAY! This year for Christmas, Gabby doesn't want any dolls....she wants a remote control car!!! Too fun!

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!

After everyone left, we decided to mix up a cocktail and play cards!! I was winning the game and started getting bragadocious about it....

UNTIL......

I got caught SHOCKED that I lost!!! How could it happen??? I was so far ahead of everyone else. I could NOT believe it!!! :-)

And then when I saw how significant I got....all I could do was flip everyone off and laugh. In the end, it was just a game that we made up! At least according to Bo's rules....
Anyway, thank you Bo for inviting us to be with you and your family! You're a fabulous host and I had a wonderful time!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!!

So this is a picture of my parents and a tribute to my grandmother for bringing my mom into the world!!! My parents are celebrating their 36th year of marriage!!!!! It's such an amazing love story....and I'm going to share it to the best of my recollection!

My mother met my father and fell completely in love. She kept seeing him all over town and then they went to the Drive In. My mother tells the story that during the movie at the drive in, it started to shower/rain. So, my father, of course, turns on the windshield wipers. She continues to go on that my father stopped the windshield wipers (when the rain stopped) such that it blocked her vision from seeing the movie clearly. (wink, wink) The only choice appeared to either move closer to my father or sit closer to the door.....(LAUGHING). Let's just say, that after 6 months of dating, my father proposed to my mother. They got married November 11, 1972 and have been loving each other since (with a few bumps along the way). They managed to raise three amazing, beautiful daughters, give us everything we ever asked for and still continue to love and cherish us today!

I chose to come and visit to be a part of the celebration! My parents have missed me dearly since I've moved and was working insane hours a week without the flexibility I use to have to just "stop in and visit".

Thanks Mom and Dad, for giving me all of your love and embracing my worst moments with compassion. Although it can NEVER be said enough, I love you with every ounce of my being...even when I'm not around as much as you'd like! :-) Happy Anniversary! Wishing you another amazing year of love, passion, peace and radiance!

Dinner for The Duchess...

So, this weekend, I made a trip to Maine...the main purpose was my parent's anniversary and to see some of my friends. Even though it's been more than a year since I made it to the mid-coast area, Melissa remembered my most favorite dish from the Black Bull...Sesame Chicken with Balsamic Emulsification dressing! YUM! So, she sent Shawn out to get the necessary fixings and prepared a FABULOUS meal!!!

And let's not forget the wine!!! We ended up staying up until 3:30 in the morning. We learned all sorts of new things at Urban Dictionary , like "crop dusting", the "Tony Danza". Some of it was so disgusting all we could do was laugh. At about 4:00a.m., I had to crash on the couch becuase I needed to rest my eyes a moment while they decided it was time to make the eggs...yes, the eggs, not the donuts, the eggs. Ya, these were the eggs I never ate because I fell into a deep sleep. :-)

Anyway, it was an amazing time visiting and I'm thankful for my friends!!! THANKS GUYS! YOU'RE THE BEST!!!!

My Birthday Continued....

So, my birthday extended over a month because I finally made it back to Maine!!!! Justine made me my favorite....chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting!!!!! The cupcakes were YUMMY and little Sam waited patiently all day for me to arrive so that he could have one.

This is THE most adorable picture I have yet to take of this little guy! He also misses NOTHING (a lot like his father), so you've got to watch everything you say because he's a little mocking bird. It definitely gets you present to how much of a potty mouth you can be as an adult when there are little ones running around! Ha, ha, ha!!!

Anyway, it was a great time seeing Forrest & Justine and celebrating my birthday with the gang!

Thanks guys for being in my life and always using Sam to get me to move back home!!!
I love you all! :-)
